December 28, 2004 Letter from the Director
Bells are ringing and angels are singing as the Museum completes its first year of operation.
Just last February, founding members gained a glimpse of the new Museum with a preview exhibition of fine art in the Front Gallery, and they sampled hors d’oeuvres and wine by candlelight in a mostly empty Rear Gallery. The personalities, art, and conversation sparkled that night, yet the business of creating a Museum had just begun.
The Museum joyfully ends 2004 with many blessings from God including a strong and growing Membership base of Georgia residents and art appreciators from as far away as Ohio and Argentina, a growing permanent collection spanning over one thousand years of art, three successful and well attended art events, glowing press reviews, and a group of dedicated volunteers who possess an unswerving passion for excellence and celebrating God’s gift of visual art.
Less than a year in operation, the Museum received its first grant for contributing to the growth of tourism in the City of Madison. And as we enter the New Year, we look forward to our first Twelfth Night Renaissance Supper Feast and Art Exhibition on Thursday January 6, a gala St. Valentine’s weekend art fundraiser sponsored by the Ritz Carlton Lodge at Lake Oconee, our second annual Spring Art Walk, our second Youth Art Exhibition, and our first Fall Madison Tour of Homes.
With many material basics in place, look for an exciting 2005 replete with art lectures and film. And do visit our Museum website at www.madisonmuseum.org for the latest news.
May you and your loved ones find special blessings this Christmas season and spread holiday cheer to those who can benefit the most.
Sincerely,
Michele L. Bechtell,Director
