Your Museum Update
December 8, 2006
When it comes to planting a perennial garden, master gardeners are quick to rhyme that, for the first year, perennials sleep. The second year, they creep. The third year, they leap! In our third year of operation, the Madison Museum of Fine Art, established to delight generations to come, is experiencing a remarkable surge of growth.
Thanks to the dedication and support of you and other museum patrons, what began as a seed vision in December of 2003 is now a working proof, with the museum providing reliably endearing visual art history experiences to the delight of adults and children around the world. A growing permanent collection spanning more than 2000 years of art history, a broadening regional membership, and an increasing demand for group tours and educational programs are stretching the Museum’s capabilies to new heights.
To guide its growth, the Museum is following the MAP (Museum Assessment Program) sponsored by the American Association of Museums and International Museum and Library Services. One early conclusion: To achieve our vision of providing premier visual art history services to rural Georgia, the Museum is ready to transition from its initial informal procedures and facilities to new ones more appropriate for a Museum of larger scale and wider regional audience.
At the operational level, the Museum is taking initial steps to formalize administrative activities such as marketing, educational programming, collections management, and membership services. On the facilities front, an advisory team of Museum members is exploring sites for a permanent home with space for the Museum’s growing collection, storage, traveling exhibitions, catered events, administrative offices, and other amenities not available at our present location, and all this without losing our intimate accessible atmosphere. So stay tuned for how your Museum membership dollars are building a world class museum and regional attraction, providing a rich educational resource for adults and children, and enriching the quality of life for you, your family, friends and visitors to this region of Georgia.
Sincerely,
Michele L. Bechtell, Director
