Henry Cleveland Ransom
"Untitled," Oil on Canvas, by Henry Cleveland Ransom, Jr. American, b. 1942
Long-time resident of Good Hope, Georgia, Henry Ransom obtained his Bacheklor of Fine Art and his Master of Fine Art at the University of Georgia. Listed in Who’s Who of American Art and American Artists “An Illustrated Survey of Leading American Contemporaries,” Ransom produces elegant abstract realist paintings with an unswerving commitment to detail, composition, and content. A technical virtuoso, the artist creates sophisticated paintings of surprisingly unsophisticated objects including Georgia red clay, cow bones, heart pine floors, pottery shards, and smooth river rocks. Behind the detail of his textured objects, Ransom weaves complex conscious and unconscious themes from his American South background and Far East travels. Winner of the prestigious Julius Hallgarten Prize from the National Academy of Design, Ransom’s paintings bring energy and flair to every environment. They focus the eyes on ordinary objects made beautiful and bigger than life, and then they hypnotically transport the viewer into his carefully constructed environments to wander among and meditate on the exquisite details of the sacred space. Ransom’s paintings are held in the collections of the Mint Museum of North Carolina, the Hunter Museum in Tennessee, the Montgomery Museum in Alabama, and the Columbus Museum of Art in Ohio. He holds his Bachelor of Fine Art and Master of Fine Art degrees from the University of Georgia.
